The Baja water mirror image V. c is part of the Color mirror series 2020-2021 related to my Water mirror series (2015-2018). It was made at the Baja artist colony in 2021, using oil on canvas technique, currently inspired by a photo of the real scene on the spot.
Regarding the subject of the picture, I was interested in the reverse image of the environment appearing on the surface of the water. The image, which changes as a result of the ripples of the water and different light conditions, is not exactly discernible and gives a distorted picture of reality. I composed the images in such a way that the waterfront and the real environment are not visible, only the transformed image serves as information about the environment. Rendering the depth of the water was not important to me in this case, as I was not interested in the nature of the water, but in the image created by the reflection in our thoughts. If we only see the reflected surface and not the original view, then we can only infer the real view from the reflection, a kind of creative process takes place in the viewer, he is forced to imagine reality. There can be a lot of subjective content between the reflection and the imagined space, and the viewer's personal experiences of the space influence the creation of the image, based on their experienced memories.
The composition of the picture has a narrow cut, it focuses on undulations and movement, when painting it, I tried to simplify the view by concentrating on the essence. The colors and brushwork were shaped by my emotional mood.
