"The highest culture is tolerance of contradictions." —Francis Picabia
... Nagy is a member of the Hungarian Block group founded in Cologne in 1990, and we hardly find figurative work among his works. A large part of his art consists of pictures made with expressive gesture painting, while the other half is made up of picture-objects approaching minimalism. "It's a completely different world of form, but the spiritual kinship is there. Kondor was important from a moral point of view," he says. Perhaps his pictures can be approached to the world of Kondor to the extent that there is something cosmic and musical in his expressive gestural pictures. As a lexicon article about him puts it: "through the varied use of materials, his works seem like musical variations written for the death of the tableau". This means that he searches for new visuals by using unusual media, such as silk and velvet, by radically using materials that often repel each other, such as oil, graphite, beeswax, and sometimes by violating and cutting up the image surface. But all this within the framework of the tableau. "When a picture is created, it always contains our entire life up to that point, from which something comes to the surface," he explains. – KÉPES HÁZ Lajos Csordás
