Lajos CSONTÓ
graphic artist - photographer
- Award winner
- In the press
- Solo exhibitions
"Since he turned his head to art, Lajos Csontó has been writing a visual diary. Not so much about the events, but rather about the way he experiences, interprets and processes them. He engages in a kind of self-therapy, in which images and fragments of text swirl and occasionally stick together to display an unarticulated feeling, giving way to free-flowing imagery associations, as in a kind of analysis. Next to the magic of speech, the image and the power of sight line up, and they force the viewer, not so much to dialogue, but rather to conduct his own monologue, to look into himself." – Edit András, art historian
Artist, he received the Derkovits scholarship in 1992, the Munkácsy award in 2007 and the special creative support of the NKA. He is a scholarship recipient of the Hungarian Academy in Rome and the Cité Internationale Des Arts in Paris, habilitated university associate professor. He creates conceptual works composed of a strange, ironic mixture of the visual and the verbal, subtly emphasizing self-contradictions. In his creations, poetry merges with an experimental attitude, therefore his works are in most cases multi-polar, instinctive, personal and rational at the same time. He has been a continuous individual exhibitor since 1988. His works can be found in several private and public collections. - Art historian Katalin Kopin
